Confederate Cush Recipe

Confederate cush is a dish that became popular among the armies of the South during the American Civil War, since it used ingredients that many Southerners had on hand.
Ingredients
- Fat bacon, chopped
- Cubed cooked beef
- Cornmeal mush
- 1 qt water
- 1 clove garlic (optional)
Procedure
- Put bacon into a hot iron skillet, and fry the grease out of it.
- Add the beef, then slowly add 4 cups of water. Bring to a boil.
- Add cornmeal mush and stir until dry.
- Remove skillet from fire, and let cool.
- Serve warm, like hash.
